Specimen Jars
Materials:

  • Glass cylinder vase or jar
  • Encapso K
  • Plastic paint bucket
  • Mixing tool
  • Halloween teeth and eyes
  • Sil-Poxy Silicone Rubber Adhesive


Instructions:

  • Combine 2 components of Encapso K in a plastic paint bucket and mix for 5 minutes.
  • Pour mixed Encapso K into a glass cylinder or jar until the depth is about 2 inches.
  • Let dry at least 2 hours.
  • Using silicone rubber adhesive, glue teeth to hardened silicone surface in jar.
  • Let dry for 15 minutes.
  • Pour another few inches of Encapso K over teeth.
  • Let dry for 15 minutes.
  • Glue eyes to hardened silicone rubber surface and allow 15 minutes for eyes to dry.
  • Pour one more layer to fill cylinder or jar.
Glitter Silhouettes
Materials:

  • Old frame with glass removed
  • Glittering glue
  • Paint brush
  • Onyx glitter
  • Poster board
  • Scissors
  • Xyron machine with double-sided adhesive cartridge, or double-sided mounting film large enough for frame
  • Carnelian or Fire Opal glitter
  • Witch, jack-o'-lantern, skull, spider, or owl template
  • Cardstock
  • Hot-glue gun and hot-glue sticks


Instructions:

  • Paint frame with glue a section at a time and sprinkle with Onyx glitter.
  • Shake off excess glitter and allow to dry.
  • Cut a piece of thin poster board to the same dimensions as the backboard of the frame.
  • Prepare the poster board by running it through a Xyron machine fitted with a double-sided adhesive cartridge, or by using double-sided mounting film.
  • Remove protective sheet and spread glitter over sticky surface.
  • Shake off excess glitter.
  • Print witch, jack-o'-lantern, skull, spider, or owl template on cardstock and cut out silhouette.
  • Prepare and glitter the silhouette like the background.
  • Lay the background piece face down within the frame.
  • Secure back onto frame and flip over.
  • With a hot-glue gun, glue glittered silhouette to center of glittered background.
Specimen-Jar Candles
Materials:

  • Cauliflower head
  • Grapes, optional
  • Celery root, optional
  • Glass vase
  • Small suction cup
  • Water
  • Food coloring
  • Wax granules
  • Wicks
  • Lighter


Instructions:

  • Attach a cauliflower head to the metal part of a small suction cup, and secure it to the inside of a glass vase.
  • You can also experiment with other fruits and vegetables instead of cauliflower, such as grapes or celery root.
  • Fill jar with water (water should cover top of cauliflower head).
  • Dye water with one or two drops of food coloring.
  • Pour wax granules on top of water and lace wicks in granules.
  • A 1-inch layer of granules burns for about 1 hour.
  • Light candles.
